On January 9, 2025, the seven research projects that won the Polisocial Award 2024 call for proposals officially began, an initiative financed with 5 per thousand IRPEF funds that supports the development of scientific research with a high social impact at the Politecnico di Milano.

The 2024 edition, in continuity with the previous one, has as its theme “Proximity Innovation” and is in synergy with the Off Campus program promoted by the University with the aim of activating processes of innovation and social responsibility in the city of Milan, taking the university outside its campuses and into direct contact with marginal and peripheral realities of the city. The winning projects of the call for proposals will implement action research activities, in partnership with other local bodies and entities, in the four Off Campus spaces of the Politecnico.

Among the winning projects, we highlight the project that involve the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta”:

BIOLOOP FACTORY | Neighborhood ‘Factory’ for the Launch of Local, Circular and Participatory Economy Practices

Aims to apply tools to enhance local waste and surplus, generating value through internally developed productions and involving socially vulnerable people in training labs and workshops. An Atlas of Energy and Matter flows, the Periurban Eco-Social Material Library, the low-tech toolkit of the Polinomad laboratory and the VITO social plant nursery are essential to develop materials and support experimental urban agriculture productions, activating circular and innovative practices.
