Christian Vergara obtained a MSc in Biomedical Engineering in 2002 and a PhD in Mathematical Engineering in 2006 both from Politecnico di Milano. He was assistant professor of Numerical Analysis at University of Bergamo from 2007 to 2015, and associate professor from 2015 to 2018 at MOX, Dipartimento di Matematica, Politecnico di Milano, and from 2019 to 2020 at LABS, here at CMIC Department. From 2021 he is full professor.
He won the prize "Anile - INDAM-SIMAI 2009" for the best Italian Ph.D. thesis in applied mathematics in the period 2006-2008 and the prize "Gian Giacomo Drago e Fausta Rivera Drago 2015/2016 for an under 40 researcher who gave important contributions in mathematical methods for medicine" given by Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere, Milan.
His primary research interests are the numerical approximation of fluid-structure interaction problems both for fitted and unfitted meshes, Optimized Schwarz domain decomposition methods for PDE's, the numerical modeling of the cardiovascular system and of the electrical activity of the heart, and the application to cases of clinical interests made with several clinical partners (cardiologists, cardio-surgeons, vascular surgeons, radiologists) and hospitals (e.g. Policlinico di Milano, Ospedale Sacco di Milano, Ospedale S. Maria del Carmine di Rovereto, Ospedale Borgo Trento di Verona, Centro Cardiologico Monzino di Milano).
