Lina Altomare graduated in Biomedical Engineering in 2004 at Politecnico di Milano, where she also got, in 2008, her PhD in Materials Engineering. She is Assistant Professor (Ricercatore RTDa) at Politecnico di Milano, Dipartimento di Chimica, Materiali e Ingegneria Chimica ‘G. Natta’.
In 2004 she was visiting researcher at LIAB (Laboratory of Innovation and Analysis of Bioperformance), Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal. During her PhD she spent 6 months at the Centre for Cells Engineering (University of Glasgow). In 2014 she was visiting researcher at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (ETH,Zurich).
Her research activity is mainly focused on the fabrication of anisotropic surfaces/scaffolds to study cells behavior according to the contact guidance theory. To this aim, she is investigating different fabrication techniques: lithographic technique, electrospinning and electrochemical techniques, sol gel process. She is mainly working on natural polymers such as chitosan, gelatin and cellulose-derived materials for different application in regenerative medicine.
