The mission of the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta" is:

• to conduct high-quality research in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, science and materials engineering and bioengineering, promoting their central role in all the new technologies involving matter and energy transformation;
• to train, in an intellectually stimulating environment, students who aspire to pursue technical-scientific careers in industry, university, government or as entrepreneurs; this materializes in the contribution that the professors of the Department provide to the teaching of all the Schools of the University, with particular reference to the Degree Course in Chemical Engineering, in Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering and in Biomedical Engineering, to the Master's Degree Courses in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering, Safety and Prevention Engineering in the Process Industry, Energy Engineering and Design and Engineering; and in the new Master's Degree in Food Engineering and in the cycle degree course single MEDTEC (Medicine and Biomedical Engineering);
• to support the Country's development through technology transfer between academia, industry and government agencies.

The skills of the Department are inherent in chemistry, chemical and materials engineering and biomedical engineering. These disciplinary skills today can be traced back to some general areas, considered strategic for the Department:
