    Our research focuses on the engineering of bioinspired materials. Our approach is based on the extraction and reproduction of key features from complex natural microenvironments in engineered materials, avatars of the biological systems. We employ advanced tools at the crosspoint of biology, bioengineering, and material science.

    We adopt a multidisciplinary approach that integrates various skills to address complex problems, establishing long-term collaborations. that expand the border of the local scientific community, integrating the diverse backgrounds to tackle complex problems. This collaborative approach sparks our creativity and accelerates scientific breakthroughs. Our expertise includes:

    • Materials science: a deep understanding of effect of the molecular-level structure on material properties, enabling the design of models for the complexity and functionality of natural microenvironments.
    • Bioengineering: we apply advanced technologies to manipulate biological systems, fostering dialogue between biology and engineering, aiming to achieve precise control of molecular mechanisms.

    1. Biological interfaces: design of materials and interfaces that interact with biological systems. This includes surfaces and 3D-systems for eukaryotic and procaryotic cell cultures, tissue engineering scaffolds, and drug delivery micro and nano-platforms;
    2. Microenvironment modulation: we explore the molecular mechanisms that govern cellular behavior in specific microenvironments Through strategic manipulation of these mechanisms, we generate avatars to investigate and regulate biological interactions effectively;
    3. Engineered production of bio-based materials: production of materials by natural origin with multiple applications, promoting sustainability;
    4. Drug development: novel drug delivery systems and novel material-based methods for pre-clinical testing.
