PROFILE

After classical studies, Giuseppina Raffaini obtained Ms Sc. in Chemistry at the Università degli Studi di Milano, an Inter-university Masters in Biomaterials (supervisor Prof. M. Santin). At the Politecnico di Milano she obtained a post-graduate Diploma at the "Advanced School in Polymer Science Giulio Natta" (100/100), and the PhD in Materials Engineering cum laude. In 2008, she became an Assistant Professor, and in 2014, an Associate Professor.

In October 2018, she obtained the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale as a Full Professor (S.C. 03-B2, S.S.C. 03/CHEM-06).

After her initial studies in quantum chemistry (supervision of Prof. M. Raimondi) and in coarse-grained models for branched polymers and dendrimers (supervision of Prof. F. Ganazzoli), her expertise expanded to molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations at the atomistic level of molecules, biological macromolecules, and polymeric, ceramic, metallic materials.

Her main research interests include protein and drug adsorption on biomaterial surfaces and 3D nanocrystals, organic inhibitors to prevent corrosion in reinforced concrete, cyclodextrins and their inclusion complexes and nanoaggregates in drug delivery systems for cancer therapy, and the adsorption of chiral molecules and oligopeptides on DNA for gene delivery purposes.

She is the co-author of about 80 scientific peer-reviewed ISI papers (HI 26). She is a member of ACS, AICIng, SCI-DCT, SIB (Italian Association for Biomaterials), and CD-TEC (Italian Association of Chemistry and Technology for Cyclodextrins), and a Full Member of Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Honor Society). She gave invited Lectures at National and International Conferences. Moreover, she presented her scientific results in several other oral and poster communications (about 60 oral communications and 60 posters) at national and international Conferences.
