Professor Alberto Cuoci, Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta", has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researcher.

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a German non-profit foundation aimed at promoting international research cooperation.

Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researcher is a fellowship opens to scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines worldwide and is offered solely on the basis of academic and research achievements of the scholars.

The key aim of the research project of Professor Alberto Cuoci is to develop advanced mathematical models for describing the formation and evolution of carbonaceous particles, with special emphasis on their morphology. If properly combined with experimental measurements, the developed mathematical model will be a valuable tool to assist engineers in understanding the impact of operating conditions on the formation and evolution of carbonaceous nanoparticles in practical combustion devices (combustors, burners, internal combustion engines, gas-turbines, etc.), with the final aim to improve their design, performances, and impact on the environment.

During the research project, Professor Alberto Cuoci will spend 18 months at RWTH Aachen University, to work in collaboration with Prof. Heinz Pitsch, the Director of the Institute for Combustion Technology.
