The winning projects of the Polisocial Award 2022, the annual contest, promoted by Polisocial, that reinvests the 5x1000 IRPEF funds in research projects with a high social impact.

The theme of this seventh edition is “Local Development and Ecological Transition”. The funded projects will undertake to promote transition processes and ecological innovation for sustainable and autonomous development, aiming at concrete results and assuming a long-term perspective.

Among the winning projects, we highlight the project that involve the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta”:

CHAR:ME | Biochar and biomass-derived products from waste as sustainable and safe domestic fuel
The project aims at the development and diffusion of a sustainable technology for the recovery of solid fuel from organic waste. The aim is twofold: to replace the conventional alternatives (wood and charcoal), which are among the main causes of deforestation in developing countries and, at the same time, to make home cooking safer in these contexts.
The case study under consideration is in Madagascar and includes a pilot experience on the island of Nosy Be.
