VIPCAT - "Highly Value Added Innovative Protocols for Catalytic Transformations"

Posted on  6/26/2018

VIPCAT is a project financed by Regione Lombardia through the European funds “POR FESR 2014-2020”, focused on developping new synthetic and enzymatic approaches characterized by an high value of atom economy, which is more and more necessary for synthesizing fine chemicals and API (active product ingredient).

Politecnico di Milano, with its Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta", is Partner of this project started on October 2016, in collaboration with Flamma Innovation Srl, Resindion Srl, P.A. Aromatics Flavors Srl, Università degli Studi di Pavia, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Istituto di Chimica del Riconoscimento Molecolare.

The project is focused on the substitution of traditional chemical processes with catalytical (in particular, biocatalytical) technologies and also envisages the application of the so - called “flow-chemistry” technique, which allows to carry out in mild conditions reactions which normally request a harsh or, on the contrary, a very delicate environment.

The use of technologies that are not currently present in national and Lombardy context (flow-chemistry, bio-catalytic procedures and immobilization of enzymes/reagents on solid support) will allow to increase the productivity, reduce costs and environmental impact, making products more competitive in comparison with the production in Off-shore countries.

In conclusion, the products will satisfy the pharmaceutical industry demands and in the same time it will be possible to create know-how on raw materials for flavours and fragrances industry, so far quite absent in the Lombardy context.
