A study by a group of researchers of Politecnico di Milano has been published on «Physical Review Letters».
Controlling the shape of a drop is a revolutionary discovery and will soon allow us to manufacture liquid technology devices, by encapsulating one liquid in another, for applications such as controlled drug release, emulsification processes and, for example, remediation of spills of liquid pollutants such as oil.
All this thanks to the work of a team of scientists from Politecnico di Milano, Aalto University of Helsinki and Oxford University, who made the revolutionary discovery recently published by the prestigious journal «Physical Review Letters».
The study was conducted on the shape control of drops consisting of a mixture of water and a protein (hydrophobin), whose drops were engineered and studied during the evaporation process on a solid surface under different gravity conditions.
