A study on Energy Storage systems has been published in «Angewandte Chemie»  , the result of the collaboration between KIT (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie) and the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta".

The article addresses and resolves the problems of unsatisfactory transport properties and limited use at low temperatures presented by aluminum-sulphur (Al-S) batteries for energy storage, used as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries (LIB) for their high theoretical capacity, low cost and high safety.

The research brought together different and complementary skills: the KIT research group is a leader in the design and electrochemical characterization of energy storage devices, the group operating at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta" is at the forefront in the sector of ionic liquids, ionic liquids electrolytes and ioninc liquid based polymer electrolytes. The collaboration has made it possible to give molecular bases to the solvation and transport processes that are established inside the batteries, allowing the accumulation and release of energy.
