A study by Prof. Javier Martí-Rujas and Antonino Famulari has been published on «Angewandte Chemie International Edition».
The article reviews the most relevant examples of polycatenanes in which the catenating subunits forming the mechanical bonds are interlocked three-dimensional (3D) metal organic cages (MOCs). The review focuses on the positive aspects of mechanical bond formation among MOCs, synthetic approaches, supramolecular topologies, and structure-function correlations. The experimental and theoretical aspects of polycatenanes self-assembled of MOCs have also been addressed.
