To develop new techniques based on photonics and nanotechnologies for the diagnostics and therapy of cancer, heart and abdominal surgery diseases, and to transfer these technologies to the system of Lombard companies for the creation of new materials and devices: this is the goal of the project NEWMED - Metodi e materiali innovativi per la medicina di precisione e personalizzata.

Led by the Politecnico di Milano, NEWMED is one of the 33 winners of the “Call Hub Ricerca e Innovazione”, tender, funded with a total of 114 million euros by the Lombardy Region (POR FESR 2014-2020 funds), which selected the most popular ideas. avant-garde among those proposed by research institutions, large companies and SMEs in the area. In particular, the project is one of the 11 of the Lombard Cluster of Life Sciences that have been awarded the loan.

Partners of the Politecnico di Milano are: Istituto di Ricerca Clinica dell’Ospedale Humanitas and the Companies Optec, Bright Solutions and 3rdPlace.

Politecnico di Milano participates in the project with three departments: Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” (Prof. Pierangelo Metrangolo, Prof. Francesca Baldelli Bombelli and Prof. Francesco Cellesi), Department of Physics and Department of Mathematics.
