A study by a group of researchers of Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta” (PolyEngLab), collaboration with University of Liège and Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, has been published on the Journal «Composites Part B: Engineering» (Elsevier).
The research concerns the study and modeling of interphase behavior in composites obtained by photopolymerization in 3D printing.
The dynamic-mechanical properties of multilayer bimaterial composites (made by combining a glassy polymer and a rubbery one) were analyzed which aim to reproduce the essential aspects of different bio-inspired structures proposed in the literature.
The study made it possible to clarify the important role played by the interphase that is generated between the two constituents, describing its behavior with simple micromechanical models.
