A multidisplinary study by a group of researchers of the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta”, has been published on the Journal «Advanced Functional Materials».

The paper, with an example-based research, hightght how chemistry, physics and material science tools can promote the understanding of how the substrate influences microbial behavior, paving the way for fundamental microbiology studies and more effective drug testing and development.

The study brings a new approach on the way bacterial cultures are performed, by introducing the effect of the structural and compositional heterogeneity to replicate the 3D environment of the complex microbial ecology found in vivo.
