BHARAT-EU (Bio-based Renewable Hydrogen from Agro/forestry/biogenic Residues through Advanced Technologies) is one of the two projects selected under the new European Union–India cooperation programme on renewable hydrogen. It will develop an innovative process for producing renewable hydrogen from residual biomass by integrating advanced biological and thermochemical technologies. Coordinated in Europe by Alessio Frassoldati and in India by Vinu Ravikrishnan of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, the project will contribute to the development of more sustainable solutions for the energy transition.

The project's kick-off meeting was hosted by the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta" at the Politecnico di Milano, with the participation of CINEA Project Officer Ana Malvis Romero, a representative of India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and the European and Indian project partners. The opening session was attended by Lavanya Kumar, Consul General of the Republic of India in Milan, together with Alessandro Biamonti, Rector's Delegate for India.
