Career

2005 - Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.

2008 - Master of Science in Material Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, with a thesis on “Z-Pin Pull-Out in Mode I Loading from Uni-Directional, Cross-Ply and Woven Fabric Cured Carbon Fibre / Epoxy Laminates” developed at Cranfield University.

2009 - Master by Research in Nanotechnology and Microsystems from Cranfield University, with a thesis on “Design, Modelling and Testing of a Novel Energy Harvesting Device”.

2014 - Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Southampton, with a thesis on “Intermediate Strain Rate Testing Methodologies and Full-Field Optical Strain Measurement Techniques for Composite Materials Characterisation”.

2014 – Research Associate at the University of Bristol, working on the High Performance Ductile Composite Technologies (HiPerDuCT)” programme.

2017 – Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol, working on the High Performance “Discontinuous Fibre Composites - a sustainable route to the next generation of composites (HiPerDiF)” project, the “Development of Advanced Wing Solutions (DAWS)” programme, and the “High-rate forming process using sustainable fibre-steered preforms for complex geometry” Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub core project.

2021 - Lecturer in Composites Manufacture and Design at the University of Bristol.

2022 – Ricercatore Senior (Legge 240/2010, s.s.d. ING-IND/22 – Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali, s.c. 09/D1 – Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali) at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano.

 

Research Interests

Recycling of composite materials (fibre reinforced polymers), specifically the remanufacturing of reclaimed carbon fibres.

Sustainable constituents for composite materials, specifically natural fibre and thermoplastic or covalent adaptable network matrices.

Automated and high-volume manufacturing techniques for composite materials, and 3D printing.

Characterisation and functional behaviour of composite materials.

 

Publications

More than 30 peer-reviewed technical and scientific international articles.

Regularly publishing in industrial sector journals and on-line magazines.

Presented at more than 15 international conferences as first author and invited speaker, and co-authored more than 50 other conference presentations.

 

Teaching & Supervision

Supervision of more than 20 undergraduate and postgraduate individual and group research works.

Co-supervision of 10 PhD students, 2 already graduated.

Unit director and lecturer in several courses and tutor in various laboratory activities.
