Dr. Stefano Buzzaccaro and Prof. Roberto Piazza (Dept. of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering) are the scientific directors of a study project which is being carried out in the International Space Station. The experiments are part of the "Advanced Colloids Experiment with Temperature Control – 10" (ACET10) study. The objective is to understand the mechanisms underlying the breakdown and aging of disordered "soft" solids, called gel. Thanks to the use of the Light Microscopy Module on the I.S.S., it will be possible to study the microscopic structure of the gel, and understand how it evolves over time.
